On the first night after dinner I went to settle into my studio, I had just recieved some alarming news. The kind that changes life, fast- in an instant. I danced for a while in front of the projector, nobody else was in the building. It would end up being the only night I got to indulge in such an intimate act due to the comotion dancing made. After that first night alone, there was always someone else in the space.

Pictured above: Drawing Mandalas as a point of entry into painting. Each morning I would play "Ethiopiques, vol. 21: Emahoy (Piano Solo)" sometimes running through the album 4 times a day

The last Mandala I drew in VT

As the practice of drawing mandalas stands, it is a way to center oneself, creating the space for channeling to occur. a motum for something greater than the self to emerge or land. Channeled above is a dipiction of a particular energy that was working within me at the time.

-The lion that apeared to me-

as in Nietzsche's 3 Phases of metamorphosis

drawn in the fashion of a Epiphyllum oxypetalum flower. Explained to me as the inner battle everyone must go through when they've followed their feather to the trap door. This became a reminder to me of the transformation I endured during those 18 days in VT.

Epiphyllum oxypetalum, blooming at home this past summer in mid july 8 months before the very hand holding this precious flower delivered to me the news.

-Life changes fast-

-Life changes in an instant-

The night before open studios 7:45pm, I didnt plan to paint. I was walking over to just check on some paintings from the day, when I saw this grouping (arrangment) of debris initally spotted when I first arrived at the residency. I rember I saw it on the second day in Johnson thinking that it felt charged, but it managed to get covered up by all the snow until finally we had a few sunny days, which revealed to me again the arrangment of debris I then knew was meant for me.

This was the call to action.

Writing became a  frequent tool for centering:

Presented above with a dried Epiphyllum oxypetalum flower, dried orange skins peeled in spirals and an anatomically pinned orange skin peeled in a  butterfly shape stuck with rusty exacto-knife blades.

Gihon River
The river that runs through the town of Johnson VT
Upon arrival we were encouraged to give all hopes, fears, and dreams to the river. It became a place of ritual, crossing  each day to and from the studio.
